Dewi Samudera

Dewi Samudera, which translates to “goddess of the sea”, is a women’s Dikir Barat team consisting of NTU-NIE students. The members are divided into three major components - Juara and Karut, Paluan, Awok-Awok. Similar to Nusa Sarjana, they too have participated in Piala Suara Serumpun where they won second place in 2018. They also won second place in Piala Khatulistiwa in 2016. On top of participating in competitions, Dewi Samudera have taken part in many performances such as Perbayu’s Annual Welcome Tea and Raya Show, Rentas Pantas, Rentak Budaya, Freshmen Orientation Programme and Malam Sastera Perbayu that was in conjunction with Bulan Bahasa.

 

In addition, they have collaborated with the dikir barat team from NUS for Malam Kesenian, which is a biennial event. Furthermore, they have organized a dikir barat workshop with Nusa Sarjana in 2019. It is a one-day workshop that aims to impart knowledge and spread awareness of this performing art form to other youths and members of the public.
