Beztari

Beztari is a traditional Malay dance group, composed of NTU-NIE students. It was formed in 2008 and ever since their establishment, they have participated in many different events and competitions. Beztari started off as a dance group whose members were mostly new to dance. Beztari has developed and provided many new aspiring dancers a platform to showcase their talents. Within these 7 years, Beztari has moved on from small-scale internal performances to prestigious events such as ‘Temasek Berbisik’ and ‘Titian Naluri’ which is a collaborative production by tertiary institutions held at the University Cultural Centre and ‘Muara: Singapore Malay Dance Festival’ at the Esplanade. At the same time, Beztari has 5 productions under its name: Naung ’12, Kanvas ’13, Takdir ’14, Asal ’16 and Apa H.A.L? ’18.

Mission: To give our best to strive for the best.

Vision: To reach out to the community and provide the youth with the opportunity to discover and portray their dancing abilities.

Beztari are not frequently involved with competitions because in Singapore’s Malay Dance scene, there’s not a lot of opportunities for competitions but they have a lot of collaborative opportunities with outside groups like other Tertiary Institutions or Professional Malay Dance Groups. These opportunities provide a platform for Beztari to grow and learn the ropes of organising a big-scale production.

One of Beztari’s main events would be participating in ‘Muara: Singapore Malay Dance Festival’ held at the Esplanade annually. This event is a well-known annual event within the Malay Dance scene, not only in Singapore but internationally as dance groups from Malaysia and Indonesia will partake each year. Hence, Muara gives Beztari plenty of exposure and a platform for us to establish their name as a Malay Dance group in Singapore.

Aside from that, Beztari organizes a biennial dance production since 2012 and we are planning to uphold that tradition in the coming years.
