Ever dreamt of living in a fantasy world? Club Sci·Napse helped to fulfil the dreams of participants by having them create their very own terrarium. Perfect as a decoration for their room, many of them took photos of your wonderful masterpiece and posted their aesthetic terrariums on Instagram.
The workshop, in collaboration with Club Arnex, provided a great learning opportunity for them to understand more about the biodiversity of a closed system. Through this workshop, an interest in Biology was sparked in participants, where they showed a greater appreciation for the environment. The event brought NIE students of different disciplines together to build their own individual terrarium. They also acquired new creative skills with the designed hands-on activities and design a terrarium with their own imagination. Furthermore, NIE students may bring their friends along for the workshop, which in turn will help them foster a stronger bond with each other.

Facilitators engaged participants in a step-by-step guide on how the terrarium is made. The comprehensive steps on terrarium making are listed below:
-
Select a glass jar.
-
Place a handful of rocks at the bottom of the container (Different types of rocks can be used).
-
Dried sphagnum or sheet moss is soaked in water for a few seconds and squeezed dry.
-
Place the slightly damp moss onto the rocks, patting it down so that it fills the entire surface area and forms a barrier that keeps the soil from falling into the rocks.
-
Scoop the soil into a funnel and fill the container with several inches of it (The succulent planted will determine the type of soil used).
-
Decorate the terrarium with figurines.
-
Water the succulents to help prevent transplant shock.
