Blood Donation Drive

Blood Donation Awareness Days – 21 March 2019 at NIE Library, 22 and 25 March 2019 at North Spine

Blood Donation Drive – 26 to 29 March 2019 at Lee Kong Chian (LKC) Function Room

Every hour of the day, 15 units of blood are used in Singapore. This amount easily accumulates 350 units of blood a day, 100,000 units per year, just to meet the transfusion needs of the patients in Singapore. Additionally, with an aging population and more sophisticated medical procedures, the demand for blood has been increasing greatly. A blood donation drive in NTU and NIE can contribute to the blood demand to save lives:

  1. To collect 450 units of blood within 4 days

  2. To raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage more people to donate blood regularly

  3. Raise awareness about blood donation to the student and staff population.

Blood Donation Drive

This year, Club Sci·Napse collaborated with Red Cross NTU Chapter (RC-NTU) to increase publicity and awareness for the blood donation drive to NTU and NIE staff and students. RC-NTU holds the blood donation drive every semester, and in NIE, Club Sci·Napse has been co-organising it annually since 2014.

This year, RC-NTU has targeted to collect 450 units of blood within 4 days as the demand of blood for the nation has increased. By having the internal blood drive, the spirit of blood donation can be inculcated among the NIE/NTU student and staff populations. Club Sci·Napse, alongside with RC-NTU, has succeeded in spreading the importance of donating blood and being regular blood donors, which can help potential donors overcome their apprehension in donating blood, and work towards being part of the blood donor community in Singapore.

Blood Donation Awareness Days

We had a blood donation awareness booth in NIE campus so that the NIE community can be better reached. To promote and raise awareness of the blood donation drive, pamphlets and panels provided by HSA and RC-NTU were provided and displayed at our booths to provide potential donors with information and clear any misconceptions about donating blood. Interesting facts and statistics of blood donation were displayed at the booths during awareness week and at the registration counter during the actual blood drive so that the NIE and NTU community are educated on the importance of donating blood and how they could contribute.
