AI@NIE LAUNCH

Artificial Intelligence @ NIE (AI@NIE) aims to transform teaching and learning with AI at NIE and advance research on the innovative and ethical applications of AI for education.
Our chapter played an active role during its launch and greatly supported the running of the event. Our club members participated as student ambassadors who guided guests around the booths. Ke Shiyao represented our chapter in the panel discussion while Alex Lim and Chelsea Lin shared about our chapter and the work we do with invited guests.
UBTECH EXPLORATION

UBTECH is a global leading AI and humanoid robotics company which develops educational applications for AI-enabled robotics. Locally, UBTECH has collaborated with Science Centre Singapore to introduce in-service teachers to educational tools developed by the company for use in schools. During this workshop, Mr Vincent Kok from SJ Cosmo Future shared some of UBTech's AI-enabled robotics, including the AI car. Participants gained an exposure to AI-enabled solutions that could enriched the teaching of various curriculum subjects.
THE PENDULUM EXPERIMENT

Data Science in Physics Practicals: The Pendulum Experiment was a workshop conducted to share the digitisation of Physics Practicals and motivate student teachers to use and develop e-Practical packages. We invited Ms Foo Fang Fang and Mr Nicholas Wong (both Curriculum Resource Development Officers), Ms Tan Bee Hoon (Data Professional and Trainer) and Mr Tan Jing Long to share their expertise and experiences.
Our club members gathered together for a fun-filled cooking workshop hosted by the Food and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Club. We cooked Carbonara Fettucine and Baked Cheese Tarts! They were delicious and we really enjoyed getting to know our members better.

The aim of the Tableau Workshop is to expose participants to the software and its power to do data visualisation & storytelling. The three guest instructors we have invited are Mr Kevin Lin, Mr Ang Wei Jian and Ms Jovita Tang. We have garnered highly positive responses for this workshop.

IS IT HYPE OR IS IT HERE?

This virtual cross-cultural panel discussion is proudly co-presented alongside the Data Science and Education Association at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. The discussion was moderated by Dr Ibrahim H. Yeter and our Guests of Honour were Dr Erik Voss, Dr Yigal Rosen, Ms Stephanie Tzeng and A/Prof Chen Wenli. The discussion served as a nexus for the exchange of perspectives on AI in Education from the private and public sectors in the States and Singapore. It also increased awareness of AI in Education and the development and pervasiveness of AI in Education and Education Technology.
AI FOR TEACHING ENGLISH MASTERCLASS

The masterclass was conducted by guest instructor Mr Suhaimi Zainal Shah. He introduced some plug-and-play AI tools for the teaching of English language and shared how some of them can be used in a lesson about information literacy. The SG-NLP team at AI Singapore, led by Dr William Tjhi, along with Mr Jayden Tan and Mr Jonathan Heng, introduced the grammar correction tool enabled by NLP techonolgy.
MICRO:BIT WORKSHOP

Our chapter members came together for the first time for a workshop hosted by our Club Advisor, Mr Gi.
We introduced the Micro:bit, a popular computing device frequently used in the Applied Learning Programme in schools. Through various activities, we appreciated the power of decision-making and automation through computer instruction. It was a meaningful learning and bonding session for our members.
